USA: Postdocotoral Fellow in Toxicology
There is an opening in the lab of Dr. Christian Paumi at the University of Kentucky, Graduate Center for Toxicology in Lexington, KY. This position will be funded for a minimum of three years with the possibility of extending for an additional two to three years. Persons applying for this position should be obtaining their Ph.D. within the next six months but not exceeding persons beyond their second year of postdoc.
Work currently ongoing in the lab is focused on determining the role of Ycf1p, a yeast ABC transporter of the multidrug resistance protein (MRP) subfamily, in cellular “metabolic quality control” and determining how Ycf1p-protein kinase interactors regulate Ycf1p function in vivo. In addition the Paumi lab is interested in determining the role of the human Ycf1p homologues, MRP1 and MRP6, in “metabolic quality control” and determining if the human Ycf1p-kinase interactor homologues regulate the function of MRP1, which has an important role in multidrug resistance in cancer, and MRP6, the gene in which mutations results in the clinical manifestation of pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE). Persons applying for this job would have an interest in both yeast cell biology/biochemistry and working in mammalian cell culture systems. Required skills for this position are a general knowledge of molecular and biochemical techniques such as PCR, cloning, SDS-PAGE, and western blotting. Additional skills in the following areas would be of interest to the work in the Paumi Lab; recombinant protein purification, prior work with membrane bound transporters, and prior experience with kinases. For more information, please see Dr. Paumi’s Lab Pages at http://www.mc.uky.edu/toxicology/Faculty/paumi.asp or contact Dr. Christian Paumi directly by email or phone (contact information below). Interested applicants should send their CV along with three references (including your current/graduate advisor) along with a cover letter to Dr. Christian Paumi via email or standard post.
